A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
Monday 26 October
8:30pm
Both the international film industry and global horror community was shocked by the news of director Wes Craven's untimely death. It is only fitting that we pay tribute to him at a specially added extra night (Mon 26 Oct) to open the 2015 South African Horrorfest with a free screening of one of our favourites from his wide catalog (of highly memorable and thrilling movies) the first NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET! It is not only the birth of Freddy Krueger, but also one of Johnny Depp's first movies! This classic film (with its charismatic burnt, black-humoured knife-gloved killer tormenting kids in their dreams) recently had its 30th anniversary.
Seats are limited - to secure yours, email us at SAhorrorfest@gmail.com with Nightmare On Elm Street in the subject, and tell us why you love Craven's movies.
Directed by Wes Craven
Starring Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, Johnny Depp
This documentary tells the story behind the rise and fall of New York's 42nd Street. The cinemas, the films, the people, the crime and the rebirth of the block as "New 42nd Street" this is the document of the world's most notorious movie strip. With
clips from many of these classic Grindhouse and Horror films that blazoned the marquees outside the theatres, and interviews with filmmakers like Joe Dante (Piranha, Gremlins), Troma's Lloyd Kaufmann (Toxic Avenger), Willaim Lustig (Maniac, Vigilante), Frank Henenlotter (Basket Case, Frankenhooker), Debbie Rochon (Poltrygeist: Night Of The Chicken Dead and Clinger, screening at the HorrorFest Monday 2 November), Lynn Lowry (The Crazies, Shivers), Sam Shermann (Dracula vs Frankenstein), porn star Veronica Hart and more.
Documentary filmmaker Calum Waddell is flying in to attend the screening and chat with the audience, and will also appear the night before (Tues 27 Oct) as featured speaker for a lecture at the free Horror Masterclass at SAE Institute, Cape Town sign up at http://capetown.sae.edu/newsand-events/events/horrorfest
The 1926 classic silent film by F.W. Murnau (director Nosferatu), with a brand new soundtrack by The Makabra Ensemble, performed live beneath the big screen.
Faust is based on Goethe's classic version of this tale about a wager between an angel and a demon, that man cannot be corrupted. With a plague set upon his land, Faust, an aging alchemist's prayers are useless.
Mephisto targets Faust and offers him youth, health and wealth, but he needs
to turn his back on God.
A visually stunning film for its time with some amazing innovative photography and a timeless narrative.
Live sound by Point Blanc Event Technical Solutions.
Directed by F.W. Murnau
Starring: Gösta Ekman, Emil Jannings, Camilla Horn, Frida Richard

RESIDENT EVIL FILMMAKERS ATTENDING
(A SPECIAL 2015 SA HORRORFEST ADDITION)
We're very happy to announce that we're fortunate enough to have the makers of all 6 RESIDENT EVIL films on hand to attend the screening of the original classic (that helped resurrect the zombie genre - and create one of cinema's most enduring kick-ass action leading ladies).
They are currently in SA shooting the 6th and final chapter to this successful epic Action / Horror / Sci-Fi franchise.
Based on the video game, the RESIDENT EVIL films have taken on a life of its own.
With the final chapter set to come full circle, the filmmakers (including attending director / producer Paul W.S. Anderson and his production partner Jeremy Bolt), they decided it would be very apt to go back to its origins for this special HorrorFest screening, with the movie that started it all.
Many may not have had the opportunity to see this first film in cinemas, so now's your chance (plus you'll be able to ask the filmmakers some questions regarding this amazing universe they created!) - Seats are limited, so don't snooze!
RESIDENT EVIL's genesis follows amnesiac heroine Alice (played by Milla Jovovich) and a group of Umbrella Corporation commandos as they attempt to contain the outbreak of the T-virus at a secret underground facility, facing a miriad of zombies and new & gruesome biological creations.
It also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Eric Mabius and Martin Crewes. Features music by Marilyn Manson and Marco Beltrami.

ABOUT THE SOUTH AFRICAN HORRORFEST
In 2004 Paul Blom and Sonja Ruppersberg decided to rectify the absence of a dedicated Horror event in South Africa.
The first S.A. HorrorFest (then also known as the Horror Festacular) launched in 2005.
Besides being a Horror / Chiller / Thriller film festival (screening feature films and short films from around the world),
from the start it made a point of expanding into a broad Halloween event by incorporating
new live soundtrack performances to classic silent films by The Makabra Ensemble,
the Bloody Parchment literary chapter, Halloween dress-up competition, a night market and more.
HorrorFest organizers Sonja & Paul at the Zombie Walk, with their boy Zoltan
